Results of endoscopic submucosal dissection performed in our hospital *
In recent years, endoscopic submucosal dissection(ESD)has become a new endoscopic technique for the treatment of gastric tumors. We have performed ESD using an insulation-tipped(IT)diathermic knife in our hospital since November 2002. The curative resection rate and complications of ESD were assessed by comparing them with those of endoscopic mucosal resection(EMR). The curative resection rate for ESD was significantly higher(90% vs 46%, p<0.0001)than for EMR regardless of the tumor diameter. The frequencies of the complications for ESD were higher(hemorrhage 4.4% vs 2.9%, perforation 3.4% vs 1.3%)than those for EMR. Careful attention is required in performing ESD to reduce these complications. (Accepted on February 7,2008)
