Expression of parathyroid hormone-related protein and its receptor in human myeloma cell lines *
To analyze the mechanisms involved in hypercalcemia in multiple myeloma, the reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction for parathyroid hormone-related protein (ＰＴＨｒＰ) and its receptor (ＰＴＨ/ＰＴＨｒＰ－Ｒ) was perfomed using seven human myeloma cell lines established at Kawasaki Medical School. The expression of ＰＴＨｒＰ was found in six out of seven lines and ＰＴＨ/ＰＴＨｒＰ－Ｒ was detected in three of these lines. In addition, although the lines which strongly expressed ＰＴＨｒＰ showed less expression of ＰＴＨ/ＰＴＨｒＰ－Ｒ, low or negative lines for ＰＴＨｒＰ expression exhibited controversial ＰＴＨ/ＰＴＨｒＰ－Ｒ expression. These results may contribute to the examination of the cell biological interactions between cytokines which possess an osteoclast-activating effect and ＰＴＨｒＰ. (Accepted on January 27, 1998)
