questionnaire results refgarding the attitude of healthcare professionals toward a groupware system in Kawasaki Medical School Hospital*

Groupware is a system supporting the “Information Infrastructure Functions” of hospital administration according to Health Level Seven (the global authority on standards for interoperability of health information technology), and it has been widely used in Japan. At our hospital, Cybozu (one type of groupware system) was introduced in 2006, but has rarely been used. Due to this fact, we administered a questionnaire focused on Cybozu in August and September, 2009. This survey was intended for all staff in our hospital. We already have reported the results of the questionnaire that was administered to the doctors - the main users of Cybozu. In this report, we present the results of the questionnaire undertaken by the healthcare professionals, including the clerical staff. The response rate for the questionnaire was 97.2% in the clerical staff, 89.0% in the nurses and 79.0% in the other healthcare professionals. Cyboze was known by 78.9% of the clerical staff, 82.5% of the nurses and 62.8% of the other healthcare professionals. But only 36.0% of the clerical staff, 24.4% of the nurses and 15.4% of the other healthcare professionals used it often. They pointed out the following problems: Cybozu has little available content. It was difficult to remember the ID and password for logging into Cybozu. The menus in Cybozu were not easy to use. It is important that some functions that the healthcare professionals, including the clerical staff, hoped to use will be added in Cybozu along with an improvement of environmental considerations.
