Vimentin Intermediate Filaments: Function and Implication in Cell Differentiation
We have demonstrated that vimentin intermediate filament protein is one of the most sensitive and useful markers for early retinal and neuroepithelial cell differentiations. This review focuses on recent studies concerning the role of vimentin intermediate filaments involved in the determination of cell structure, in cell division and in intracellular signal transduction, and discusses the mechanism of vimentin expression sensitively reflecting cell differentiation in the early development of the eye and spinal cord.
