Skin Symptoms Related to Occupational Contact Dermatitis in Hairdressers: Questionnaire Results

Since hairdressing is considered to be one of the professions in which occupational contact dermatitis most frequently occurs, we examined the frequency of allergic dermatological problems in hairdressers using a questionnaire. Although 10 to 20% of hairdressers were found to suffer from such problems, few of them appear to seek treatment for these problems. During training, emphases should therefore be placed on the importance of prevention and the use of gloves and appropriate solutions, especially for shampooing and permanent waving.
